How the date of Christmas is set

Christmas Day is fixed on December 25 and is one of the eleven legal public holidays in 5 U.S.C. § 6103. When December 25 falls on a Saturday, most federal employees get Friday, December 24 off instead; on a Sunday, the holiday is observed on Monday, December 26. How the countdown is counted

The big number counts calendar days from today, not counting today, so the day before Christmas shows 1 day. The live clock counts down to midnight at the start of the day in your time zone, which is why it can show one day fewer plus some hours. As of Monday, October 26, 2026, 60 days remain, of which 44 are weekdays (Monday to Friday, public holidays not removed).
