How the random username generator works
This random username generator builds names from two word banks, about 150 adjectives and 200 nouns, that are all family-friendly and easy to spell. Pick a style and it combines them in that shape: Adjective + noungives you names like SwiftFox; Adjective + noun + number adds a 1–3 digit number for when the plain version is taken; Two nouns pairs things like RiverLantern; Gamer tag adds underscores, an xX…Xx wrap or optional leetspeak (Sw1ft is not used, only a → 4, e → 3, o → 0, so names stay readable); and Aesthetic produces lowercase names with dots and underscores such as swift.fox or _swiftfox. Ten names are generated at a time; every one is unique and under the length you set.
Including your own word
Type a word in the "Word to include" box and it replaces one of the two slots at random, so "Luna" gives you LunaFox, SilentLuna, luna.lantern and so on. Anything that is not a letter or digit is removed, since almost no platform allows spaces or symbols in a handle. If your word is longer than the max length you will get an error rather than a truncated name.
Platform length and character rules
- Instagram: up to 30 characters; letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
- TikTok: up to 24 characters; letters, numbers, underscores and periods (not at the end).
- Twitter/X: up to 15 characters; letters, numbers and underscores only. Set max length to 15 and avoid the aesthetic style, which uses dots.
- Discord: 2–32 characters, lowercase, with periods and underscores allowed.
- Xbox, PlayStation and Steam: 12–16 characters is the sweet spot; the gamer-tag style fits.
- Roblox: 3–20 characters, letters, numbers and one underscore.
The tool cannot check whether a name is taken, because that requires asking each platform. Copy a few candidates and try them in the sign-up form; short two-word names on big platforms are often taken, which is what the number and aesthetic styles are for.
Picking a username you will not regret
Avoid your birth year, your real name and your location unless you want them public forever; a username follows you across years of posts. Prefer names that are easy to say out loud, since friends will need to find you. Check that the two words do not run together into something unintended when written in lowercase. If you plan to use the name on several platforms, test the shortest limit (15 on Twitter/X) first so you can keep one name everywhere. Finally, a username is not a password: do not reuse it as one, and do not pick a password that is just the username plus a number.
Frequently asked questions
›How are the usernames generated?
Two word banks of about 150 adjectives and 200 nouns are combined in the chosen pattern: adjective+noun (SwiftFox), two nouns, with a number, gamer-tag style with underscores or leetspeak, or lowercase aesthetic style with dots.
›Can I include my own word?
Yes. Type it in 'Word to include' and it replaces one of the two words in every result. Only letters and digits are kept, since platforms reject spaces and symbols.
›Does the tool check if a username is available?
No. That requires asking each platform. Copy a few candidates and try them in the sign-up form; the number and aesthetic styles help when the plain version is taken.
›What length should I set for Twitter, Instagram or TikTok?
Twitter/X allows 15 characters, TikTok 24, Instagram and Discord 30 or more. Set the max length to the smallest limit if you want the same name everywhere.
›Are the usernames safe for kids?
The word banks contain only neutral, family-friendly words (animals, nature, food, space, fantasy roles). Still check the two words do not run together into something unintended.
