Updated October 30, 2026 · How we check facts

The US liquid pint is a US customary unit of volume. NIST lists it as 0.4731765 liters. It is half of a US liquid quart and one eighth of a US gallon, and it holds 2 cups or 16 fluid ounces.

Conversion

pt = qt × 2
pt = gal × 8
fl oz = pt × 16
L = pt × 0.4731765

Example

A 16 fl oz bottle is one US pint, so 8 of them make a gallon. Five pints are 5 × 0.4731765 = 2.366 L. The gallon chart shows every step, and pints to liters converts any value.

Common mistakes

A pint is not a half liter: it is 0.473 L, so a 500 mL bottle holds a little more than a pint.
