How to convert megabytes to kilobytes

Common mistakes
- Dividing instead of multiplying. A kilobyte is smaller than a megabyte, so the number of kilobytes must come out larger: 1 megabyte = 1,000 KB.
- Mixing decimal and binary units. Drive makers and this page use 1,000-based (SI) units; Windows reports 1,024-based sizes, which is why a 1 TB drive shows as 931 GB. The result box shows both.
