The milliliter (mL) is the metric unit for small liquid volumes, such as medicine doses, recipe amounts and bottle sizes. The prefix milli means one thousandth, so 1 mL = 0.001 liter, and 1,000 mL make a liter. One milliliter equals one cubic centimeter.
Conversion
L = mL ÷ 1000
US fl oz = mL ÷ 29.57353
US cups = mL ÷ 236.588
Example
A 330 mL can is 330 ÷ 29.57353 = 11.16 US fluid ounces. A 500 mL bottle is 0.5 L, and 500 ÷ 236.588 = 2.11 US cups.
The converters ml to oz, ml to liters and cups to ml take any value. The prefix logic is explained in how many milligrams in a gram, and ounces in a liter lists bottle sizes.
Common mistakes
Milliliter (mL, volume) and milligram (mg, mass) are different quantities. They coincide only for water-like liquids, where 1 mL weighs about 1 g. US food labels also round household measures: 1 fl oz is 30 mL and a cup is 240 mL (21 CFR 101.9), slightly different from the 29.57 and 236.6 mL physical values.
