Updated November 4, 2026 · How we check facts

The hour is a unit of time defined as 3,600 seconds, exactly, in NIST's conversion tables (3.6 × 10³ s). It equals 60 minutes, and 24 hours make one day of 86,400 s.

Formula

h = s ÷ 3,600

Example

A 40-hour work week is 40 × 3,600 = 144,000 s. A week has 7 × 24 = 168 hours (how many hours in a week). Convert with hours to minutes or hours to seconds.
